Winter Wardrobe Wonders: Coogi-Style Sweaters

Winter Wardrobe Wonders: Coogi-Style Sweaters

Flip phones are in! Walkmans, VHS tapes, and reruns of MTV cribs are "cooler than an ice bear's toenails." And, of course, no game night is complete without a round on the Nintendo or Super Genesis. Yes, the 90s are here again and as LL Cool J would say: "Don't call it a Comeback"...ummmmmm we are not sure what to call it then L—but we love it.

Our current nostalgia for everything 90s encompasses fashion, music, arts, gaming and plenty more. So, it's a very good thing that the era gave plenty to suit all tastes, including one of our current faves: Coogi sweaters.

An Australian brand established in 1969, Coogi sweaters were marketed as a luxury item and retailed from 400 dollars and up. They came into mainstream attention thanks to the likes hip-hop stars like The Notorious B.I.G. The icon loved them so much he once said: "Living better now/Coogi sweater now,” on 1995’s “Big Poppa.”

Alas, we do not have orginals in store—still on the hunt—but we do have many designs that fit that vibe—and as you know: vibe is everything!

So what's the Coogi vibe you ask? Well, it is that ethnic look with crazy kaleidoscopic patterns and hues. And, importantly, it's always very street—think downtown New York. Here are some examples of that vibe

1) Take this vintage sweater by Frank Alles. Playful abstract prints elevate it from a classic crewneck to a piece with that coogi vibe. It's unisex, so you and your special someone can take turns showing it off. Wear it with your favourite blue denim and finish the look with some dope sneakers or chunky heel boots.

2) Another piece we have in store that oozes that crazy print sweater vibe is this unisex cardigan. A layering must-have for the winter months, style it over turtlenecks and pair with plaid separates for a cool and retro finish.

3) For those who want the look, but love muted hues then this Grey Sweater has your name all over it. We love that its neutral palette makes it a multitasking piece.

4)  Although more subtle, is this oversized cardigan—or lightweight jacket— is also a vibe in that direction . A leather-mix design its oversized silhouette is so very on trend.

5) We saved the best for last! We are absolutely in love this reversible crazy print cardigan cum coat. The 80s reversible design allows the minimalist to experiment with maximalist—and vice versa. Thick enough for the heart of winter, the vintage piece touts a bold crazy print on the one side, and on the other, a solid green hue. For both men and women, it comes complete with pockets. Style with your favourite pair of denim and finish the look with a heavy duty pair of leather boots.
