On Bohemian Chic. An Ode To Crazy Pattern Shirts & Lisa Bonet

"Bohemian Chic" is a term we like to throw around a lot in fashion. We use it for that girl we spotted at the Summer festive in a fringe suede jacket and matching cowgirl boots. It's the moniker given to the ethereal queen with a leather duffle bag nursing a case of wanderlust. It is always at the tip of our tongue, sharpened, loaded and waiting ... But what  exactly does it mean to be "Bohemian Chic?" 

In 2003, American Singer-Songwriter and Bassist Michelle N'geochello released a song by the title " Liliquoi Moon", it is believed to be an ode to actress, artist and activist Lisa Bonet. Now, if you are unfamiliar with Lisa Bonet, well then you missed out on good sitcoms of the 90s like the " Cosby show" and " In Living color". With a wardrobe replete with multi-colored printed blouses, much like we have here:

Lisa Bonet then and now not only had the "uniform"  we have come to label as "Bohemian" , but also embodied spirit of a soul forever levitating and taking flight.  And that's what I think it means  "Bohemian chic;"  it's not merely an aesthetic, it's something beyond that, something much more moving.

Liliquoi Moon is a complex and beautiful piece of music layered with base and string guitars that cumulates with a cacophony  of instruments- the chaos and the creation. The lyrics evoke a multitudes of emotions from love and freedom to pain , trauma and death. 

My favourite line from Liliquoi moon  " I want to be free, and closer to the sky. On the wings of angels, I want to fly”. I think it embodies perfectly what it is to be Bohemian Chic,  which I believe is to have a spirit of lightness and joy, that's informed, though untethered, by the many pains of life.
